Guys,
I have a couple of now legacy versions of the Pi OS on Pi3B+ and Pi4 systems happily running/booting from a NVRM. The NVRM's are both about half full of a whole load of pictures, videos and archived stuff I cannot afford to loose or, indeed, want to have to off-load and re-install.
I have a Pi5 and my interest in NVRM'ing that has been triggered by reported progress on PCIe Hat+ cards.
I've tried to search for detail for a non-destructive, in the sense of not stuffing everything else on the drive, operating system upgrades but so far the actual question that will illicit the right answer escaped me.
With an increasing range of NVRM solutions banging on our doors, and the rapidly evolving (perhaps I mean relegated to legacy) Pi Operating Systems, not having an easy and non-destructive upgrade path to using new releases on mature NVRM boxes will be a nightmare for some of us not wanting to go through all the faff yet again.
Surely, if there is not yet a path to update/upgrade legacy versions of the OS on mature systems, fitted with NVRM or not, perhaps we should ask the clever people out there to get on with it. After all, my PC based Ubuntu's have been getting non-destructive upgrades to whole new versions for a while now
Thank you for your attention.
Perhaps there is now a solution but with other stuff to do I've missed it. Any pointers welcome.
