Raspberry Pi OS • New Bookworm 64bit download Problems

I have downloaded the latest version of the 64bit image and used the RPI Imager to write it to an empty micro SD card.. The imaging process completed satisfactorily. Whilst waiting for an Rpi5 8gb to arrive I thought I would try the card in a rpi 3a+. All start well but then the the screen froze. On a reboot got a bit further and was able to start terminal and try an update and full-upgrade. This froze reading the changelog.
Having found journal it appeared that one item was not suitable for the device. I then tried rpi-update which updated the firmware and completed without incident.
Upgrading then seemed to go through ok. However, when I tried opening Libre Office Writer it crashed. Checking the Journal there are numerous lines like this:

Code:

Dec 30 20:53:26 raspberrypi3a packagekitd[2809]: pk_package_set_update_severity: assertion 'update_severity == PK_INFO_ENUM_UNKNOWN || update_severity == PK_INFO_ENUM_LOW || update_severity == PK_INFO_ENUM_NORMAL || update_severity == PK_INFO_ENUM_IMPORTANT || update_severity == PK_INFO_ENUM_CRITICAL' failed
Is the bookworm 64bit a step too far for the 3a+ ? if not can anyone give me a clue to what's going on? Previous clean starts have been trouble free. I haven't been able to find anything online that helps.

Thanks.
