I suspect it's not running Wayland, as it's a 3B+, so that maybe makes things a little easier. Raspberry Pi Connect doesn't work on Pi 3's for this reason. Which is a shame as it's not a bad remote desktop solution.
I've found that Chromium on my Pi 3s is a bit of a pain - it takes a very long time to start up, and tends to just hang a lot. I don't think there's enough RAM for it really. There are other browsers that work better on the 3. To be fair, Chromium can run into memory issues on my 4GB Pi 4 if it's been open for a while too. It's probably best left for the 8GB models.
