Guys,
I've had my front door monitored for a couple of years now by a MotionEYE installed on a Pi ZeroW and getting emailed alerts of visitors. All good until my email provider, Office365 (and also GMail) made it all better by requiring Oauth2 in the email connection. The thing is it continued to work as they transisitoned until it all stopped and the Pi Zero W sort-of died. I guess it got all jammed up with stuffed emails. A complete flush re-install has it working again, nothing broken, but emailed alerts now fail.
Seems MotioneEYE development is on pause for the forseeable future although they are open to comments/help. A bit of research suggests that MotionEYE is written in Python and was wondering if anyone here had had a look at it and had any clues. I did have a little poke around but given time constraints and the minimal instalation many to the useful tools are missing all compounded by me being a bit out of my depth.
One of my other on-going projects uses "msmtp" which after some configuration sends Bash script alert emails via my provider and it occurs if the MotionEYE Python is tweekable it could be persuaded to send alerts via an alternate email client and why not "msmtp". If so I would also need to get around the read-only OS setup and add the tools to install and configure "msmtp" for Oauth2.
The biggest barrier for me is the necessary learning curve coupled with not coping well with a lot of serious reading so I need to keep it all simple. I note that there are other applications out there but MotionEYE is so close to what I need if it can just be persuaded to cooperate.
Any clues welcome.
