With respect to "Will only work when a non-bootable drive get's detected." Clearing all data on an SD/SSD will make it non-bootable and improves performance. The Bookworm release command blkdiscard (package util-linux) works to clear device content (reading all blocks only returns binary zeros). Without going into details SD and SSD work much differently than HDD. The blkdiscard command tells the controller built into the SD or SSD to forget about anything that has been written. This improves the performance of the SD/SSD because it does not need to merge new writes onto old data from before your install.
