I don't know your reasons for choosing X11, and I'm not at all anti-X11, but both Wayfire and Labwc let me go all the way up to 3840x2160 for remote VNC into a Pi5. Just something to consider. I find the latest Raspios releases work pretty well with Labwc on either a Pi4 or Pi5.
