If you'd prefer it to be not quite so laggy you can opt for a less weighty desktop environment by building your own using RasPiOS Lite.

For instance, I install xdm (display manager) and icewm (window manager) and then I connected to it via a virtual VNC connection served by TigerVNC.

With libreoffice writer already open it took close to a minute for Firefox to get ready AFTER I responded "Y" to "do you really want to run this on a system with less than 1GB of memory?"

IOW I wouldn't plan on doing much browsing with Firefox on a 02w unless you're VERY patient, but it's great for running terminal type apps and maybe libreoffice (but again, it's gonna bit a bit slooowww).

This is a very interesting contribution, thanks a lot. It is also very helpful to know that a Raspberry Pi zero 2 w with more than 512MB will probably not come very soon. I am interested in the zero 2 w on the long-term. And I was quiet suprised to learn that DietPi is the better OS than Raspberry Pi OS:

DietPi allows only to install the required components. So I suppose it is a good solution for the zero 2 w. But I suppose it depends on the applications. And I feel negative about DietPi if I see how comforable Raspberry Pi OS with Leepspvideo KDE plasma built 4 is, which I tested once. This was really a great solution. Is there a better for Rasbperry Pi s? And for that eventually also much easier to choose a Pi 4 or Pi 5 for your application.
