Apologies if you have already dealt with the effects of doing this completely, but as you have not included any details:
How did you create the new user?
How did you copy the files?
I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to delete the user or the files (assuming space is not critical): On some variants of Linux only the 1st user created has "sudo" permission, I don't know if that includes Pi OS (assuming that is what you are using).
You may not have replicated the file permissions.
If you have sudo access now you might be better fixing the password for your original user to something you know.
