I have a 16GB RPi 5 running latest RPi OS.
I am trying to run my favorite C/C++ IDE, which is Jetbrains CLion. Unfortunately it is slow as molasses, completely unusable.
I did try a few things, such as changing from Wayland to X, with not much difference, still completely unusable.
Now, I also happen to have an Orange PI 5 Ultra 16 GB, which runs at a slower speed on the big cores (2.26 vs 2.4). And a compilation benchmark shows that in practice the RPi is roughly 10% faster than the OPi.
However, the OPi runs CLion like a champ, very usable speed.
Does anyone have any great ideas how to fix the mindbogglingly slow Java apps on RPi?
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
