Raspberry Pi OS • Updating alsa-lib / MIDI 2.0 support

I’m trying to build a basic USB MIDI 2.0 device (running on a Raspberry Pi Pico 2) and I’m using a Raspberry Pi running the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS (6.12.25+rpt-rpi-v8) to test it (Windows doesn’t support MIDI 2.0 yet and I don’t have a Mac to test it with), but so far without success (even when strictly following examples provided in the specifications).

That made me wonder if Rasberry Pi OS actually supports MIDI 2.0. Does anyone have experience with MIDI 2.0 and Raspberry Pi OS?

MIDI 2.0 support was added in Linux kernel 6.5 and the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS is based on kernel 6.12, so that should be fine.

I also came accross the information that for MIDI 2.0 to work I need alsa-lib version 1.2.10 or higher.

Code:

aplay --version
suggests that I’m using 1.2.8, so that might be the issue. Is it possible to update alsa-lib to a higher version? If so, how do I do so?
