Well, this was a surprise. I have been using X-11 and 'xrdp' and that worked bar a brief period recently when it didn't. Checked it was still working and it was.
I closed RDP on the PC, used 'sudo raspi-config' to switch to 6/A7/W2 Wayland/Wayfire, rebooted my Pi 4B 1GB, Raspberry Pi OS, Bookworm 32-bit, waited a while, ran RDP on my PC and, "Bingo!", there's the Pi desktop with a pop-up "Authentification is required to refresh the system repositories. User: Pi".
I closed RDP on the PC, switched to 6/A7/W3 Wayland/Labwc, etc. This time a black screen but I could right-click and got some sort of menu -
Closed RDP, went back to Wayland/Wayfire, as above, and that worked again. Chrome runs, Firefox runs, Chrome won't connect to external sites but Firefox will. Chrome just spins the spinner forever.
Closed RDP, back to X-11. Same there; Firefox works, Chrome doesn't.
Classic 'win some, lose some' I guess.
I am not sure I did anything specific to make Wayland/Wayfire work with RDP or had in the past. I don't recall it having worked but now it does. Maybe the recent fix to make it work again for X-11 made Wayfire work ?
I do have an 'xrdp' user but don't know if I created that or something else did - "xrdp:x:113:123::/run/xrdp:/usr/sbin/nologin"
If anyone wants me to check anything I am happy to.
