This is odd. For me it happened again and again that the image was corrupt and me getting the error when trying to update system.
Once I used the other image, it worked right away to update system without giving dpkg error.
Not sure if I could help with verifying where the corruption happens. I'm not a linux expert. But I'm sure I can replicate this as often as needed.
