Raspberry Pi OS • Re: Kodi slow on Trixie using X11

Hello,n

I have recently installed Rasperry Pi OS Trixie on my raspberry pi 5. I would like to use X11, because i mostly use my Pi as a media center and mostly administrate it using ssh/remote desktop. As far as I can tell, Wayland does not really support any form of remote desktop (RDP, VNC), so i'm kinda stuck using X11.

Running Kodi on X11 though makes it run at low fps (eyeballing it at around 10fps, which feels extremely choppy and unpleasant). It does run great when using Wayland though.

I'm a bit at a loss at what to do. I would be fine with either a way to make Kodi run smoothly on X11 or a way to connect remotely to the desktop on Wayland (other than Rasperry Connect, which is fine, but nowhere near as simple as just using the windows remote desktop client).

Thanks for any assistance you may be able to provide !

I believe (with empirical evidence) that you are mistaken.

Remote Access to my RasPiOS Trixie Desktop GUI - using the pre-configured "Way*" options - is trivially possible via VNC or the Raspberry Pi Connect service.

I have no experience with Kodi on any platform so I don't know whether it will perform any differently under a "Way*" scenario, but I see no reason not to at least try it. I don't think you need to feel 'kinda stuck using X11.'
