There can be long path between the servers/caching/mirror and you computer. It is rare, but I have seen content corruption, was in mobile link infrastrucure. Nowadays there are cachening instances etc, there might go something wrong. Or your computer has bad memory models, also had that long time ago.
I would say download the compressed images manually via browser or wget and also manually check with sha256sum (all in Linux/UNIX terminal/CLI).
