First, it looks like the top level pages of the Rpi Download area only carry the latest version (Trixie) and two "legacy" versions (bullseye and bookworm). But I found a buster image at:
https://downloads.raspberrypi.com/raspi ... mhf.img.xz
after some digging. But I note that there is only 1 image - which looks like the "desktop but not recommended software" version (based on the file size). Now, this is fine for my purposes, because I actually think the desktop version (w/o extra software) is the best one to use, but I'm curious if the other versions (desktop with everything and "lite") are available somewhere.
Some other, related questions:
1) Why are there so many versions of "buster" at the (parent of) the above URL? I took the latest one, but I'm wondering why so many and spread over a few years ('21 through '23) ?
2) In which version of RpiOS was the switch to Wayland?
3) In which version of RpiOS was omxplayer dropped from the image?
P.S. I am hoping (haven't checked yet) that bullseye still has omxplayer, but if not, I'll have to go back to buster.
P.P.S. Yes, my hardware supports omxplayer. This is not a Pi 4 or 5.
