Raspberry Pi OS • Installing Trixie 64bit Lite on 3B hangs

I flashed a 32 GB SD card with the newest 64Bit Lite OS (Trixie) for Raspi3B. During installation the monitor screen went to rainbow colors and stayed there. The Raspi red light was steady on, the green light flased in constant rythm. Next tried with 'boot_delay=1' in config.txt. Again unsuccessful.
What else can I try?
