Raspberry Pi OS • Raspberry Pi OS Buster – Chromium cannot install Chrome Web Store extensions

Hello all.

I'm experiencing an issue when using Chromium on Raspberry Pi OS (Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)).

Specifically, I am unable to install certain extensions (for example, an User-agent Switcher and Secure Exam Proctor). The browser indicates that Chromium needs to be updated, however the system is already fully up to date.

I verified the browser version via chrome://version and the system reports that Chromium is updated to the latest version available in the Raspberry Pi OS repositories.

The observed behaviour is as follows:
- Extentions refuse to install
- A "browser not updated" message is displayed
- The issue persists even after a full system update (apt update / full-upgrade)

I would like to understand whether this problem could be related to:
- incompatibilities with the Chrome Web Store
- Extension compatibility restrictions
