The Rpi5 is using the current system on a micro sd card. The hard drives have all my data files on them (not operating system). Every time I apply the updates the result is the same: update applies successfully, then on hitting logout the shut down button does nothing, the reboot button does nothing, the logout button brings on a system crash (black screen, system error message and the Rpi5 restarts). The only shut down option is to switch off at the mains. The reboot button on the Pi itself is inoperative.
An hour after re logging into Google services and e mail servers etc, onto a copy of the card pre update, I am back to having a working desktop computer. I went through that procedure four times and will now not load updates as I cannot afford the down time.
Any ideas when I will be able to trust the update system once again?
Since 13 March I have not applied updates, but have logged into every service I normally use. I propose to order a new SD card, run card copy again, and then try updates one last time...
