I still haven't got it working sadly. Some things to note in case it leads to the answer: the desktop file does not even execute manually even after desktop has fully started, either by clicking 'execute' or execute in terminal' from the options that pop up. Using just Exec=vlc or the full path i.e. Exec= /usr/bin/vlc (or without the space Exec=/usr/bin/vlc) don't work. But opening terminal and just typing vlc opens vlc just fine. I'm losing hair from scratching my head so much! Anyone got any ideas based on this? I know there are other ways to try to make apps run at startup but I really want to use this /.config/auotstart/vlc.desktop method.
