Raspberry Pi OS • Re: Heart Broken: My Love Affair With MotionEYE is Over

Guys,

Just a little update on my problem ...

Above I mooted using some intermediate SMTP Relay that would provide a simple email route that MotionEYE could forward alert emails to. I had already got MSMTP going talking OAuth2.0 to my Microsoft Office365 mail servers for another project. There's loads of detail on this out there.

Over the last couple of days, and with a load of research, I've managed to cobble together a simple SMTP relay agent using snippets from across the web. My MotionEYE can now forward the email alerts to the relay and it just does a store and forward via MSMTP to my ISP.

At this stage my little relay program is a mess and nowhere near safe, fully debugged or tidy but as a proof of concept it looks like a goer. I've also achieved some confidence in my little relay program using Thunderbird to send emails that include attached images.

Perhaps the most important gain is I've learnt a whole load of new stuff although at my age not sure I'll ever use it again.

My current problem, and it seems common, is MotionEYE is not attaching any image files to its email alerts. This seems to be a common problem and is reported to respond well to a few tweeks in the configuration file.
