Thanks for the hint. I got exactly the same problem and could not pinpoint the source of it. Thought it must have something to do with the cable. Its a shame they do not provide the schematics. Probably just a capacitor missing.
Anyway, the grounding did not work for me but is apparently has to do with that power button. I touch the PI - Ethernet leds blink like before. Seconds later it turns off. Logs also show the button press.
Edit: I fixed my issue with a small capacitor on the power button pads. Those next to the batt connector where you are supposed to attach an external power button. I used 100nF ceramic 0603.
Grounding did not work for me. There are still some key pressed events but fewer. I disabled shutdown for the power key.
In /etc/systemd/logind.conf there must be an uncommented line saying HandlePowerKey=ignore. Reboot.
Imho, the only reliable solution would be if the foundation looked into it and put that capacitor in the right spot. Or a stronger pullup maybe ? Hard to tell it there are not public schematics.
