Raspberry Pi OS • Re: eeprom updates gives error

Not sure why this happens.

Bought second Pi5. This time nil PCIe/SSD just running straight from a SD. Downloaded Raspberry Pi OS 64 bit through the Imager and updated it through raspi-config. When trying to change settings for POWER_OFF_ON_HALT=1 and then saving it doesn't stick! So checked sudo nano /etc/fstab and it looked exactly as Anne UK's above. So why could I not change the settings? Decided to add rw after defaults on first line. Then again changed the eeprom to ...HALT=1. This time it worked.
As this is a brand spanking new Pi5 and with a fresh SD it sort of tells me the problem is with the version of Bootloader. Its a small problem and easy overcome by adding a rw, to FSTAB, when you know what to do (which I didn't until getting the help above).

Thanks all
