The key question is what list of apps did it say it was going to remove after you ran that command?
When I try it:

Code:

$ sudo apt purge rpi-eeprom Reading package lists... DoneBuilding dependency tree... DoneReading state information... DoneThe following packages will be REMOVED: arandr* gldriver-test* lxplug-cputemp* lxplug-network* lxplug-ptbatt* lxplug-updater* pi-bluetooth* piwiz* raspberrypi-net-mods* raspberrypi-sys-mods* raspberrypi-ui-mods* raspi-config* raspi-utils* raspinfo* rc-gui* rp-prefapps* rpd-plym-splash* rpi-eeprom* userconf-pi* wayvnc* wf-panel-pi*After this operation, 117 MB disk space will be freed.Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
You can see it suggests a lot of (important) packages will be removed. The correct answer to the question is "no".
