Oh it definitely does, I use wayfire with my CRT TVs all the time, both at 1080i and 480i, it works great.I don't believe wayfire supported this either.
As I understand it, wayland doesn't support interlaces modes.
If you use raspi-config and switch to wayfire does it work any better?
