Raspberry Pi OS • Changes to WG0.conf don't persist after reboot or shutdown

I've got WG running nicely on my RPi v4. Problem is that no changes to WG clients added, removed or disabled persist after reboot. OTOH, if I perform a pivpn -bk, the same changes ARE reflected in the backup files. So, in order to have those changes made "permanent," I have to overwrite the WG files w those from the backup (which I previously copied to my desktop PC). For some reason, the changes made using pivpn -a, etc., don't persist on my RPi WG configuration. This happens whether booting the RPi from an SDHC card OR a USB stick I've updated my RPi w sudo apt-get update/upgrade, so AFAIK, everything is up-to-date. I don't know if this is a WG conf problem, or specific to my RPi setup. I suspect a wrong permissions (i.e., Write-only?) flag on the WG directory/sub-directories, but haven't found anyone reporting a similar problem in spite of what I think is an exhaustive search. The only hint as to a possible source of the problem is the following output at the end of the upgrade RPi process:

Code:

update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-6.6.51+rpt-rpi-2712W: Couldn't identify type of root file system for fsck hook'/boot/initrd.img-6.6.51+rpt-rpi-2712' -> '/boot/firmware/initramfs_2712'
Might I need some sort of fstab entry? Haven't had to manually edit fstab in years, so am unsure how to run this problem down. Any help?

Many thanks.
