Sorry folks, I didn't mean to disrespect by not responding. Life got in the way...it happens
So yes I'm used to the behavior of attaching a USB drive and it asking me to do I want to mount it or not, that's what happens on the other PI's, however this one, if I recall correctly, actually pops up the logoff page! I could be wrong but I think it does because I was thinking to myself what the heck...
Some great idea's here and I will test them out. I do have a USB powered hub (independently powered I should say), however I did NOT try plugging in the 2nd NVME to it because I wasn't getting any power warnings within the UI so I figured all was well, and the fact that I could browse the file system of the 2nd drive again made me think its not a power issue. That said, definitely worth checking out!! Along with all the other recommendations.
The NVME's FWIW are 1TB Crucial drives (or 512GB? bah my memory...).
I may have really shot myself in the foot I don't know. I used that same RPi4 B with an SD card to run Venus OS for all my Victron Solar devices (works great!). So I am going to repurpose another RPi4 B I have, I'm concerned that the core firmware or something deep within the RPI4 will be different and not boot the disks to begin even troubleshooting. I suppose I could take this 3rd Pi4 and slap the SD for Venus OS in it and use that and that returns me to the original RPI4 that I was having the issue with. I don't want introduce a different RPi SBC into the mix as another variable.
I just got the new case for the RPi4 so I can slap it in there (I had one of those giant ICE cooler fans on it because I was into overclocking for 5 minutes) so I'll slap that overclocked PI 4 in the case, throw the Victron SD card image, run my solar on it, and go back to using my original Pi4 that has this dual NVME issue.
I noticed I used RPi4 and RPI4 B throughout this post, they are all 4B's and I will be testing the NVME's on the original (never overclocked) RPI4B that had the issue leading to this post. Hopefully if tomorrow is not too busy I can get that all going. One more thing about the power thing too, the case has a hat fan and also I believe there's a small fan in the NVME enclosure. I can test how many watts its pulling. I did spring for the Argon 40 PSU which I believe has a little more juice. Weird no GUI errors about power, I've gotten them before on other Pi's when messing with overclocking. (again this Pi has never been OCd). Hopefully the wall powered USB hub does the trick, and if not it'll be time to start copy and pasting the results of your suggestions!
Thanks folks!
