This triggers me; I see from notes around 2025-09-17 that I had an issue with this, see also viewtopic.php?p=2337905#p2337905Then it hangs in systemd-hostnamed.service.
This was in the process of in-place upgrading from RPiOS Bookworm to RPiOS Trixie. To figure out whey this issue, I kept purging packages (that I did not need) until no issue anymore; That was after
apt purge winbind --autoremove
But not sure if samba is real root cause
I see in my notes:
systemd-hostnamed.service
NetworkManager.service
polkit.service
systemd-logind.service
Those were related to the stall. State now is that is only Debian, except to raspi pinned packages: raspi-firmware linux-image-rpi-v8
Plan was/is to run some own mainline kernel and/or also vanilla Debian kernel, as I do not need/use any RPi specifics anymore on that RPi4. I put NetworkManager back to Debian version and removed also many RPL tweaks.
For your RPI3, it is quite different situation, there is cloud-init, and some more things not in earlier beta RPiOS Trixie or release Debian Trixie. I have no clue about the touchscreen, I only use RPI3 headless (and camera V1, USB). I would make it multi-user.target and loglevel=7 via serial console as test and see what is going on.
